The Story
This 1988 Ford Mustang Saleen represents a nice example of Fox-body collectibility. Factory tagged as car #35 of approximately 700 examples modified by Saleen Autosport for the 1988 model year.
The factory letter from Saleen Autosport confirms this car as a 1-of-1 build – meaning no other 1988 Saleen was delivered with this exact combination of colors and options. This makes it not just rare, but absolutely unique in Saleen history.
Finished in striking black with gold graphics over sand (beige) cloth upholstery, this Saleen showcases all the signature modifications that made these cars legendary: the distinctive rear wing, revised body panels, Racecraft suspension components, SVO-type four-wheel disc brakes, and those iconic 16" gold basketweave wheels.
The heart of this machine is the 5.0L High-Output V8 producing 225 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, mated to a five-speed manual transmission with Traction-Lok limited-slip differential. The transmission was completely rebuilt during current ownership, ensuring smooth shifts for years to come.
With 87,500 miles and having been garage-kept for the past 10 years, this Saleen has been preserved exceptionally well. Around $10k spent in maintenance and mechanical upkeep. Services I've had done includes brake work, heater core, driveshaft, transmision and other fixes and regular maintenance. I have all documentation.
The car comes with all documentation that I have including the Saleen verification letter, maintenance records, also a car cover and any parts/pieces removed from or yet to be put on the car.
This car changed a few hands in it previous life and had some modifications. But for the last 10 years this car has been truly fantastic for me. No leaks, rarely driven except to car meets and maintenance drives around the block. It's a documented piece of Saleen history, representing the intersection of Ford's iconic Mustang platform and Steve Saleen's racing-inspired vision, with the ultimate seal of approval from the man himself.
